At Wesley Wells Farms, our passion for education and agriculture drives us to provide enriching experiences for our local community. We believe that learning about farming and the food production process should be engaging and enjoyable. That’s why we offer a range of educational opportunities, including field trips and workshops. Our programs are designed to provide hands-on learning experiences for individuals of all ages. If you’re searching for farms in St. Augustine, FL, look no further than Wesley Wells Farms.
Our farm is the ideal destination for those seeking to connect with nature. We also offer many ways to learn about agriculture, and have a memorable time in the process. Whether you’re a teacher planning a field trip, a group of friends wanting to embark on an educational adventure, a homeschooling family or co-op, or an individual eager to expand your knowledge, we have field trip themes that cater to your needs.
Each farm tour begins with a brief overview and history of our third-generation farm and a family introduction. Included in the tour is a themed lesson (see themes below), a visit with the farm animals, a u-pick activity (take home a seasonal crop), and a hay ride. Groups are permitted to bring a sack lunch to eat on the grounds but please remember we close the gates at noon.
Any field trip booked within the month chosen will be the following theme whether it’s a public or private school group, homeschool group, or story time on the farm. Themed field trips include age appropriate lessons for students ages pre-k through 12th grade.
2026-27 Field Trip Themes
September – Surprising Sunflowers – Step into the sunflower field for a fun and faith-filled learning experience! Students will explore the incredible design of sunflowers through a creation-based perspective, discovering how young sunflowers follow the sun through a process called heliotropism. This powerful example from nature will be compared to how we are called to follow the Son of God and grow toward His light. The field trip will also briefly introduce the fascinating Fibonacci sequence found throughout creation — from sunflower seed patterns to shells and plants — pointing to the order, beauty, and creativity of a common Designer: God.
October – It’s What’s on the Inside that Counts – Our pumpkin field trip focuses on the meaningful lesson, “What’s On the Inside Counts.” Students will gather for a live pumpkin carving demonstration while listening to an engaging story about character, kindness, and the importance of inner beauty over outward appearance. Through this hands-on and memorable experience, children will be encouraged to think about how our hearts, choices, and actions matter far more than what we look like on the outside.
November – Forest ecology/trees – Explore the amazing world of trees and forest ecology on this hands-on outdoor field trip! Students will discover the many important purposes trees serve — from providing lumber for furniture and paper products to surprising everyday items they may never have realized come from trees. Along the way, they’ll learn about forest conservation, habitats, and the important role trees play in God’s creation and our daily lives. This immersive experience takes place in our brand new conservation area and nature trail, giving students the chance to learn while surrounded by the beauty of nature.
December – GMOs: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly – Dive into the fascinating and sometimes controversial world of GMOs in this interactive agriculture field trip about genetically modified organisms. Students will explore what GMOs are, how they are used in modern agriculture, and both the benefits and concerns surrounding them. Through discussion and hands-on learning, students will be encouraged to think critically about science, farming, food production, and the role biotechnology plays in feeding the world. This field trip is designed to spark curiosity while presenting multiple perspectives in an engaging farm setting.
January – Don’t Ruffle My Feathers – Get ready for a feather-filled adventure in our “Don’t Ruffle My Feathers” field trip! Students will explore the fascinating world of chickens as they discover the many different types of feathers and their unique purposes — from colorful saddle feathers and curved sickle feathers to the soft, fluffy down of a newborn chick. Along the way, students will learn about chicken anatomy, function, and how feathers help protect, insulate, and even attract attention in the flock. This hands-on experience is perfect for curious learners who love animals and farm life!
February – Garden in a Glove – Dig into the fun with this hands-on gardening field trip! Students will learn the basics of planting and growing while exploring how seeds sprout and plants thrive. The highlight of the experience is creating their very own “Garden in a Glove” to take home — a fun and interactive mini greenhouse that lets students watch their seeds grow right before their eyes. This engaging lesson encourages curiosity, responsibility, and a love for gardening in a way kids will never forget!
March – The Buzz – Students will discover the important role pollinators play in our food system and environment in this exciting, hands-on field trip. From bees and butterflies to hummingbirds and other helpful creatures, students will learn how pollination works and why it is essential for growing many of the fruits, vegetables, and flowers we enjoy every day. Through interactive activities and real-life farm examples, students will gain a deeper appreciation for these tiny but mighty workers that help keep our world blooming.
April – Monsters on the Farm – Students will discover how giant zucchini can sometimes seem like “garden monsters” while learning all about how zucchini grows, what plants need to thrive, and the many ways farmers care for their crops. Through hands-on activities and farm exploration, students will gain a better understanding of gardening, healthy foods, and the hard work that goes into growing fresh produce — all while having lots of fun with these oversized garden giants!
